Welcome to Grand Prix

Welcome to Grand Prix Concours!

We provide concours-level detailing and light restoration work for the classic and sports-car community. We can prepare your vehicle whether it’s heading to a marque-specific national event or straight to Pebble Beach.

We’re located in suburban Philadelphia, but prefer to work on-site in your shop or at your home — and we offer full support on-location at the show if required.

About Grand Prix and Tim McNair

What began as Tim McNair’s part-time hobby more than 35 years ago became a full-time business in 2006 when he created Grand Prix Concours Preparation. Since then, countless vehicles prepared by Grand Prix have won awards all over the globe.

We work all cars from McLarens to Mercedes; Bugattis to BMWs; Rolls-Royces to Ferraris. If a car needs to be presented as the best-possible version of itself, that’s our job. This means our services aren’t limited to just concours presentation — we often prepare auction cars to maximize visual impact, to underscore originality, and to maximize sale price. We work on cars directly after restoration (or merely right out of the body shop) to tie up any loose ends. And we’re hired by many clients to consult during the purchase process to help ensure the correctness of their new collector car. This emphasis on correctness means we also often help “survivor cars” present to their fullest capability while retaining proper patina and originality.

Grand Prix also hosts tech seminars for car clubs, a successful way to educate the hobbyist about the concours process. Please contact us if you’d like more information on holding a seminar for your group.

Whatever your needs, rest assured our quality work will exceed your expectations.

Tim McNair

Grand Prix founder Tim McNair has been passionate about cars since he was a young boy. It all started at age ten when he received a gift subscription to Road & Track magazine and began dreaming of working on the European sports cars on the glossy pages.

These dreams became one step closer to reality when, in the 1980s, he was recruited by an automotive accessory retailer. His work there gave him access to the rarified cars that he had seen in the magazines — and his attention to detail started him down a path to working on them to make sure those cars looked exactly as resplendent as they were when new, in the pages of Road & Track.

In the decades since, Tim has worked in almost every facet of the automotive business, from restoring Mercedes-Benz 300SLs to selling Minis — but every road led back to concours preparation. And for well over a decade, Tim’s full-time job has been to fly around the country (and around the world) to help cars look as glorious as they possibly can.

Tim’s work is regularly on display at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Villa d’Este, Amelia Island, The Quail, and many national marque-specific concours events. He’s prepared a number of cars for museum presentations, including Philadelphia’s Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum.

Vehicles prepared by Tim have been photographed in magazines such as Forza, Porsche’s Excellence, Automobile Magazine, Octane, The Rodder’s Journal, Japanese Nostalgic Car, and Classic Motorsports. More importantly, Tim himself, and his detailing methods, have been featured in many of those same publications — and in how-to videos for Hagerty Insurance, On Star, and Classic Motorsports. Detailing supply companies around the globe, including Meguar’s and Griot’s Garage regularly hire Tim to present seminars on proper detailing techniques.

Tim is an alum of AACA judging schools and is currently Chief Judge at the Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance — as well as a national judge for the Ferrari Club of America and an occasional judge at the incredibly prestigious annual Concours d’Lemons in Monterey. He’s a member of the Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club, Porsche Club of America, Old York Road Sports Car Club, Gullwing Group, and the Ferrari Club of America.
